Total Hip Replacement
Total hip replacement is a common operation for osteoarthritis of the hip. Liam also performs the operation for a number of degenerative hip conditions, or mechanical hip conditions if it is deemed the most reliable, effective treatment option. This list includes avascular necrosis, rheumatoid arthritis, fracture, hip dysplasia, perthes disease, femoroacetabular impingement and slipped upper femoral epiphsysis.
In my roles at Barwon Health and as a member of the AOA, I have educated, mentored and proctored surgeons and trainee surgeons the technique of anterior for total hip replacement.
Routinely I perform an anterior total hip replacement with robotic assistance across all 3 hospitals in the Geelong region.
Anterior Robotic Total Hip Replacement
I primarily perform anterior total hip replacement to minimise risk of complications. I am fellowship trained performing hip replacement via the anterior approach. Routine no muscles or major tendons are cut or damaged during an anterior hip replacement it is a muscle sparing approach.
Robotic augmentation and preoperative 3D planning are new tools to ensure the most accurate possible procedure is performed and to enable virtual preoperative range of motion, instability and stability testing of your hip replacement
