Hello

My Story

Growing up in Cohuna, Victoria, Liam developed a strong connection to regional communities and an appreciation for the importance of accessible, high-quality healthcare. I was a passionate footballer, representing a range of teams in Cohuna and Melbourne before retiring from competitive football after winning my first premiership with the University High School Old Boys Amateur Football Club in 2003. He remains active with my young family and surfing whenever the opportunity arises.

He studied medicine at the University of Melbourne before undertaking specialist orthopaedic training through the Australian Orthopaedic Association across Victoria and Tasmania.

Following completion of my orthopaedic training, I further developed my expertise through three advanced fellowships:

  • Elective and Trauma Orthopaedic Fellowship at Western Health, Victoria

  • Anterior Hip Replacement and Hip Preservation Fellowship with Mr Jit Balakumar

  • Paediatric Orthopaedic Fellowship at Starship Children’s Hospital, Auckland, New Zealand

In 2021, Liam moved to the Geelong region with my young family to establish my practice and provide specialist orthopaedic care to the local community.

One of his passions is "hip preservation" surgery — helping patients, families, physiotherapists, radiologists and surgical colleagues better understand conditions affecting the young hip.

Many causes of hip pain in younger people, including developmental hip dysplasia and femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), can remain undiagnosed for years and may lead to ongoing pain, reduced function and early joint degeneration. Through education, collaboration and early intervention, my aim is to improve outcomes for patients with these conditions.

I regularly contribute to education within the orthopaedic community, including presentations throughout the Geelong region and formal teaching of accredited orthopaedic trainees across Victoria and Tasmania in hip preservation and hip arthroplasty.

He also has extensive experience with modern joint replacement techniques, including robotic-assisted surgery, and performs robotic-assisted anterior approach total hip replacement and robotic-assisted knee replacement.

The practice provides a personalised approach to a broad range of adult and paediatric lower limb conditions. Liam believes the best care comes from empowering patients with clear, balanced information so they can make informed decisions about their health — whether that involves surgery, non-operative management, or a combination of both.
