Liam is an orthopaedic surgeon specialising in hip and knee conditions, with a particular focus on hip preservation surgery. He grew up in Cohuna, Victoria, completing his primary and secondary schooling there before studying medicine at the University of Melbourne.

 

Training

Liam completed his orthopaedic training with the Australian Orthopaedic Association across Victoria and Tasmania. He went on to complete three further fellowships to sharpen his expertise: an elective and trauma fellowship at Western Health, an anterior hip replacement and hip preservation fellowship under Mr Jit Balakumar, and a paediatric orthopaedic fellowship at Starship Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand.

Liam moved to the Geelong region with his young family in 2021 to establish his practice.

 

Clinical Focus

Liam's practice centres on hip preservation, with particular expertise in periacetabular osteotomy (PAO) and hip arthroscopy. He is experienced in robotic surgery, performing anterior total hip replacement and knee replacement with robotic assistance, alongside a range of reconstructive knee procedures including ACL reconstruction and patellofemoral stabilisation.

He and his team offer a tailored approach to a wide range of orthopaedic lower limb conditions for both adults and children, and are committed to empowering patients to make informed, unbiased decisions about their care — whether that means surgery or non-operative management.

 

Teaching & Education

A particular passion of Liam's is educating patients, families, physiotherapists, local radiologists, and colleagues about young hip conditions — including hip dysplasia and femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), common causes of hip pain in younger people that often go undiagnosed and can significantly affect quality of life. This includes talks and presentations across the Geelong region, as well as formal teaching of accredited orthopaedic trainees across Victoria and Tasmania in hip preservation and hip arthroplasty.

 

Outside the Clinic

Liam was a keen footballer growing up, playing for Cohuna and University Blues in Melbourne before retiring after a premiership with University High School Old Boys Amateurs in 2003. These days he stays active with his young family and gets in the surf whenever he can.
